Social media is everywhere, and everyone has some grasp of it. Yet there is a significant difference between social media for personal use and harnessing it as a strategic and effective marketing tool for growing your business. Used correctly, social media for business marketing can help you gain valuable insights about your target audiences, allowing you to create a deeper connection and build engagement for your brand.

Through the use of analytics data, industry insights and our Discovery Workshop, Icon Visual Marketing develops an in-depth understanding of who your customer is, what social media they are consuming, and why they consume it. This information is crucial in helping us develop a tailored social media strategy that helps achieve your business goals.

When you engage Icon Visual Marketing for your social media marketing, you get access to a highly experienced team of content producers, copywriters, graphic designers, digital marketing specialists, and creative strategists.

The right social media platforms for your business

Every business is different, and therefore their social media needs will be different. While there are a growing number of platforms available, not all channels are effective for all businesses. The art of an effective social strategy is knowing which to use.

Facebook

Primarily used for sharing content with your audience - blogs, latest work or wins, video content. A great channel for connecting and engaging with your audience.

Instagram

One of the top platforms for businesses to showcase their products. Instagram focuses on providing audiences with stunning visuals that capture the imagination.

LinkedIn

Unique amongst social media channels as it focuses on our professional lives. It’s a place where the leaders in your business can showcase their knowledge and expertise in your field.

TikTok

Focuses on the creation of engaging short form video content. The audience skews younger, but its user base continues to grow and it offers a number of ad formats.

Pinterest

Like a digital scrapbook or mood board - a place people go when they’re seeking inspiration. Ideal for showcasing products and services in some categories.

X (Twitter)

Ideal for giving your brand a voice. It enables you to engage with other brands on important topics, while also helping you voice your own opinions and start conversations.

Strategy

We don’t just implement social media campaigns and cross our fingers. Every social media campaign is backed by data, research and insights. We work closely with our clients from the beginning to ensure we understand the needs of your business and your customers.

We start this in our Discovery Workshop, where we get to know your brand, your competitors, and your customer personas to understand their needs, wants and pain points. We then build a social media strategy focused on achieving your business objectives.

Popular social media advertising questions

Does my business need to have a presence on all social media platforms?

No. Your business should only be present on social media platforms that your target audience is on and that are best suited to your brand, product or service. You should prioritise channels based on your target customers’ preferences and how many channels you’re willing to keep active on.

What is the difference between social media marketing and social advertising?

Social media marketing is a way to build your brand or business organically, that is unpaid, on social media platforms. The main focus is to grow your community and build meaningful connections with your target audience.

Social media advertising covers a range of paid ads across the same channels, with the aim of achieving a specific business growth objective such as increased awareness, website visits or lead generation. Paid ads allow your business to target a wider audience beyond your current followers.

Does social media advertising work, and how much does it cost?

Social media advertising is an effective and measurable advertising medium with a low cost of entry. It is also highly targeted, allowing you to reach potential customers with minimal wastage.

Your budget will differ depending on the platform and who you are wanting to target. The good news is that you can limit your daily spend on each platform so you don’t get a budget blowout. We recommend starting with a lower budget and testing a range of different ads to see what works best.

What type of content should I be posting?

The answer really depends on your business and what your target audience wants. Use the wrong type of content on the wrong platform targeting the wrong audience and you’ll come across as unprofessional.

That’s why at Icon we build our social media content plans based on insight driven strategies. We tailor our content calendars around six key content pillars to ensure we are delivering the right message on the right platform to the right audience.

How often should my business be posting to social media?

There is no one size fits all solution. While it’s great to be posting a couple of times a week, you need to ensure that the content you post is engaging and eye catching. Spamming your pages with daily posts that constantly drive sales will very quickly start to annoy your followers.

This is why a sound social media strategy and content plan is important. Putting some logic into how, when and where you post helps your brand strengthen its relationship with your audience.

How do I manage negative comments on my social pages?

Firstly, look at setting up content moderation solutions provided by the specific social media platform.

Secondly, ensure that any negative comments are responded to in a timely and professional manner, even if that means addressing the issue and asking the poster to take the discussion offline. Followers are much more receptive and respectful of brands that acknowledge mistakes or negative feedback rather than ignoring or deleting such comments.

Can I post the same content across all my different social accounts?

You can, but it’s not recommended. Each social channel has a specific purpose and your audience will have different needs across each platform.

Your social strategy should be customised to each platform, with content tailored to deliver the correct messaging to the right audience.

Can Icon manage my social media if my business is not located in Sydney?

Of course. We have several clients around greater New South Wales, as well as in Victoria and Queensland. These clients are all managed remotely using online video calls, emails and phone calls. Once a campaign is set up our clients have access to an online, customised reporting dashboard that delivers results in real-time so you can monitor your campaign’s performance from anywhere in Australia.
